My Profile
Diego Puig
COACH — DELEGATE — SPORTS TECHNICIAN
I’m part of the technical staff both on the pitch and in analysis. My greatest asset is closeness to the dressing room: a natural ability to connect with players and turn any tactical idea into something executed with conviction on the pitch.
The best tactical plan is worthless if the player doesn’t make it their own. My greatest strength as a coach is that connection with the dressing room: earning each player’s trust so decisions are understood and executed with conviction on the pitch.
Before the bench
From player and business owner to coach
I’ve played football my whole life, until I was 40, in 7-a-side teams at a high competitive level — I even played in the Spanish 7-a-side Championship. I never played for a big club: as a teenager, my parents prioritised my studies over pursuing that path, a decision I respect and one that shaped my journey.
That path included 20 years as a self-employed digital marketing professional, leading projects and teams of people efficiently — a different discipline from football, but with the same fundamentals: managing people, making decisions under pressure and executing with judgement.
In 2021 I formalised what had always been my real passion: I obtained all my official football coaching qualifications. Since then I’ve worked to bring that team-management experience, combined with my reading of the game as an experienced player, to the bench.
Professional goal
Looking to join a professional technical staff, starting wherever needed
My goal is to dedicate myself to professional football as a coach. I’m aware the path doesn’t start on a big bench: I’m looking to join a technical staff — in any role — with room to grow, to get into the circuit and prove my work from the inside.
— Immediately available —
Passionate about grassroots and youth football, with experience as both head coach and assistant coach at various base and youth levels. My work combines dressing-room leadership with tactical analysis: I’ve worked both as head coach and in technical and logistical support roles, adapting to different environments and levels of demand.
I believe analysis is only worthwhile if it connects with the people who have to execute it. That’s why I care as much about reading the match as about the relationship with the player: explaining the «why» behind each decision, adapting the message to each age and profile, and building the trust needed for a tactical change to become something real on the pitch.
How I work
Two pillars: human connection and data rigour
Connection with the player
Tactics stay on the whiteboard if the player doesn’t trust the person explaining them. That ability to connect comes from 20 years leading teams of people outside football, and it carries over naturally to the dressing room, adapting communication to each profile.
- Interpersonal communication adapted to young players
- Emotional management and conflict resolution in the dressing room
- Group cohesion and transmission of values
- Individual motivation within a collective plan
Analysis with modern tools
I incorporate artificial intelligence into my daily workflow: to speed up video and data analysis, and to structure reports and planning with more agility, without losing the coach’s judgement in the final decision.
- AI tools for video analysis and game-pattern detection
- Generative AI applied to tactical reports and session planning
- Tactical analysis with LongoMatch
- Video editing with Adobe Premiere and iMovie
